US decision to sell arms to Taiwan
US decision to sell arms to Taiwan
The United States announced that it has decided to sell weapons to the Tavyan government. China reacted strongly to the US decision to sell $1.1 billion worth of weapons and defense systems to Taiwan.
Radar systems against missile attacks and missiles against ships and aircraft are among the sales products. Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan last month, making him the most senior US politician to visit Taiwan in the past 25 years.
Upon these decisions, China asked the US to take a step back, otherwise, it said it would take a counter-step.
Liu Pengyu said that this agreement would "seriously damage" relations between the two countries. China says it owns Taiwan and will connect it to the mainland by force if necessary. Taiwan claims it belongs to China.
If Taiwan approves the sale, the radar system will be given to Taiwan for 655 million dollars, and 60 Harpoon missiles that can sink ships will be given to Taiwan for 355 million dollars. In addition, $85.6 million worth of surface-to-air or air-to-air Sidewinder missiles will also be sold.
State Department says arms sales are very important to Taiwan
Thereupon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on China to end the economic, political and diplomatic pressure on the island and enter into dialogue. The Pentagon formed a special team last month to facilitate arms sales to US allies.
US politicians emphasize that Taiwan's arms demands have not been met for many years.
According to Defense News, which reports on the defense industry, the Harpoon and Stinger missiles requested by Taiwan were sent to Ukraine instead of this country after a long wait.
What do you think about this subject? Do you think the US should sell?
