Popular video platform YouTube has announced that it will add watermarks to its videos in Shorts format. Accordingly, content producers who want to download their Shorts and share them on other platforms will encounter watermarks in their videos.

China-based social media platform TikTok has revolutionized such media with its short video format. YouTube, the online video platform, also participated in this short video frenzy with its feature called 'Shorts' and became one of TikTok's competitors.

Now, it has been revealed that YouTube, which has recently been revealed to sell subscriptions to platforms such as Netflix and Disney +, is working on a new feature for videos within 'Shorts'. According to the official statements, the US-based giant platform will now start adding watermarks to Shorts videos.

It is planned to prevent the sharing of videos on different platforms

In a post made yesterday by YouTube about the updates, it was announced that watermarks will be added. In a statement made by a community manager of the platform, it was stated that content creators cannot download and share Shorts videos on other platforms without a watermark.

The statement on the subject is as follows: “When content producers want to download Shorts videos to share on other platforms, they will encounter a watermark attached to this content. This will enable viewers to see that the shared content can be found on YouTube Shorts.” Additionally, the officials added that the watermarks will be made available for desktop in the next few weeks, and will be added to the mobile app in the coming months.

Let's add that TikTok also has such an application. The platform has been adding its logo to downloaded videos for a long time. Thus, it could be seen that the content shared on other platforms belonged to TikTok. In addition, a statement about watermarks came from Instagram, which competes with TikTok thanks to the 'Reels' feature. Instagram stated that its algorithm will prevent content that carries the watermark of other platforms. However, it should be noted that the platform affiliated with Meta does not add such markings in its videos at the moment.
